Bilingual (Spanish) Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist (FT)

Position Summary:

The Bilingual (Spanish) Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist identifies and engages women who are pregnant, are likely to soon become pregnant, or are parenting and refer them to medical and support services and follows- up to ensure the connection is made. The Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist will work to establish and maintain trust, provide needed support and advocacy for parents, and participates in regular review of program outcomes for improvement. Reports to the PICHC Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Spanish speaking required
  • Associate degree preferred in human services field or 2-year equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to helping others
  • Experience coaching individuals and/or groups
  • Knowledgeable in perinatal health and human service agencies within the Rochester community
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health, the impact of structural racism on health and birth outcomes, and a commitment to culturally responsive care
  • Experience and competence working with racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations in the inner city of Rochester
  • Community affiliations with existing efforts to address community health, social determinants of health, and advocacy
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in use of the internet and Windows-based computer systems
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid NYS Driver’s License

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to walk or move for up to 4 hours and stand for long periods at a time
  • Knowledge of target population and areas/places to engage them
  • Assess client requests for support and refer appropriately
  • Document in electronic system outreach attempts, referrals, and follow-up
  • Coordinate outreach efforts with agency programs, events, and community activities
  • Maintain knowledge of perinatal health, human services, and community resources
  • Maintain a robust understanding of Rochester neighborhoods, assets, and challenges
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Communicate effectively with clients, parents, families, support systems, and agency staff
  • Assess and conduct quality improvement protocols in agency programs, outreach efforts, and cultural appropriateness
  • Represent agency and program at relevant community collaborations and events
  • Additional duties or projects as assigned

 Salary Range: $42,000 – $45,000
