TITLE:  Teen Age Parent Support Services Program Family Counselor


REPORTS TO: TAPSS Program Supervisor


HOURS: Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM


SALARY: $42,000+


JOB SUMMARY: The Family Counselor will provide comprehensive, relationship driven and culturally responsive home-based counseling and case management services to teen parents and their families. This position includes receiving weekly individual and group reflective supervision to support best practice and professional development, requiring self-reflection.



  • Providing parenting education utilizing the Parents as Teachers Curriculum that is focused on improved parent-infant/toddler relationship and supporting child development
  • Assists with support and educational groups for teen parents
  • Fulfill all program objectives as contracted by the funder(s)
  • Perform related work as assigned
  • Being flexible and creative to support the needs of the client
  • Self-motivation to assist with approaching and responding to crisis in and decisive and emotional regulated manner to help families maintain balance, health and well-being
  • Completing assessments, progress notes and required case documentation.



  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience working with children and families.
  • Familiar with the psycho-social aspects of adolescent parenting, child development, generational trauma, child maltreatment, parent-child attachment, and multi-cultural issues.
  • Skills to successfully interact and engage with professionals and individuals with varied socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong writing and computing skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Previous experience working with teen parents, familiarity with the child welfare system, knowledge of Rochester-area resources, preferred
  • Previous training in the Parents As Teachers (PAT) model, preferred
  • Training and experience with Infant Mental Health principles and practices, and the ability to serve Spanish-speaking clients, preferred
